Space Crusade

So, those of you keeping up with my new What I’m Playing gadget (in the blue sidebar) you’ll notice I’ve been playing a lot of Space Crusade. Now, as has been noted many times throughout this blog, I play games primarily with my family and most often with my youngest brother (who suffers from a form of Cerebral Palsy) and Space Crusade is one of our latest family games. Carcassonne

Every review I’ve read of Carcassonne begins by the author excusing it as an exercise for their own peace of mind. Because Carcassonne has been around for 10 years people seem to think that a review of the game is now an exercise in futility because everybody else already knows about the game… Well, I didn’t… and I’m sure I’m not the only one to have ignored this game for the last ten years. So for those of you like me, this is Carcassonne Unboxed. Objective The point of Carcassonne is to score more points than the other players. You do this by fortifying cities, robbing travellers on the roads, producing a good harvest and praying really hard in your monasteries. Of course none of that actually happens in the game. Gameplay Carcassonne is a tile laying game. The mechanics are simple. You draw a tile and then place it somewhere on the table so that at least one edge connects to a previously laid tile. Game Night Reviews: Mysterium

Continuing our adventures into the world of Cooperative gaming the next game I introduced to my fledgling group of non-gamers was Mysterium. Mysterium takes the game of Clue and replaces the concept of logic and reasoning with an obtuse ghost, through which your group of mediums is attempting to deduce the ghosts killer. Rather than simply explain it was the Reverend Green, with the Candlestick in the Dining Room, the ghost will first tell you it’s entire life story, including every character he met along the way before his untimely demise. Finally, from this rogues gallery you must choose who you think was the killer based on yet more interpretive dreams given to you by the world's worst eye witness… seriously, it’s like he doesn’t even want you to catch his killer!
