New Year’s Eve took its toll on me, much drink was imbibed and merriment had, but only one game was played, Cards Against Humanity.
Cards Against Humanity is an irreverent party game that follows in the footsteps of more innocent games like Say Anything and Dixit. A statement is posed by one player which features a Blank. Each player then submits an answer from the selection of cards in their hands to fill in that blank. The judge then votes on which answer they felt was funniest and the winner is awarded the question card as a point.
We played with two gamers and two non-gamers and the game went down well on both sides. We played until we lost interest which to be fair was around 50 questions later. Cards Against Humanity is definitely an adult only game, using rather dark humour to generate laughs it will only appeal to certain groups.
Like many of these styles of games you have to play a card from your hand even when none of them make sense. In addition because we were using the US set of cards we struggled with a lot of the Trademarked Products like Adderall which I still have no clue what it is. We also struggled more with cards that had multiple blanks, often reading the answers out in the wrong order.
Regardless, we had a good time and it enabled me to play a game with friends I normally can’t get to play games. That said, Cards Against Humanity is not a game I would choose to play often, or with an all gamer crowd, I’d much rather play Absolute Balderdash!
